The decimal system - carrying numbers and away we go!
Early Childhood and lower elementary children in Montessori classrooms around the world learn about the decimal system, often called the Golden Bead materials to explore the foundations of mathematics. We will look at the activities children can do to learn about simple units, tens, hundreds and thousands. The work extends from simple identification of the various quantities and their symbols to introducing the functions of each of the four arithmetic operations - addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
